Double DDs, Our New BF & Funky Stomach

September...all of it... b/c its been that long
Miles: A Lot
Death Toll: 0
Injuries: 0...but always a new pain after a run

So... it's been at least three weeks since my last post. I've, we've, Big B & I, have been a little busy. What with trips to New York (me), the Bahamas (she), work commitments and now the new fall line-up of prime time...it's been hard to find time to sit down and update this thing...

Which, I would like to point out, is the problem with a blog. It's not a very effective communication tool for people with rigorous schedules because you have to update them constantly or else the Double DDs come after you.

And pull your head out of the gutter people b/c Double DDs is not what you think it is... it actually stands for "Dancing Dads." If you've read any comments on the "Today I Turned 50" post, you'll notice some clever comments from the Double DDs. They are two dads from the studio (whose girls I teach), one training for the OUC half and one training for the "goofy" run (he's really a professional runner anyway) and will run the 5K on Friday, the half on Saturday and the full on Sunday during the Disney Marathon weekend. Anyway, they occasionally provide excellent running tips (even if to mislead us about Body Glide- we totally thought it was something more glamorous than it really was) and frequently give us grief and tell us to "put our big girl panties on and stop whining." Look out for their comments as they have some funny things to say about us Double BBs.

So, we've started training with a new best friend... first it was Fay, now its Lance. As in Lance Armstrong; the seven time Tour de France winner. It's at this point that I need to interject something about our new friend and what drives me crazy... he is not the first person to fight and survive cancer and go on to do great things! Shout out to all those cancer survivors who do great things every day... you know who you are as you read this. Anyway, I digressed, so Lance. He does our interval training with us. He tells us when to run faster and keeps time. He also plays crappy music in the background and it makes me wonder if this is the type of garbage he really trains too... but again, I digressed.

I would love to now recap the mileage we've had the past three weeks, however I don't have my Nike iPod Plus in front me to recall the miles, so I'm just going to say about three weeks ago we had out longest run at 10 miles. Then I went to New York and we took a little break. Last week, prior to Big Bs cruise, we got in a total of 20 miles with our longest being an 8 mile run. We ran Monday for 5 miles, and today we did another 5 but with Lance and our interval training. We're taking tomorrow off, running Thursday evening with the group, running Friday (I think), off Saturday, because my husband informs me we have to have a garage sale, and then will get in 11 miles on Sunday. Wahoo! 11 miles... here we come. And according to the October schedule, we shift into hi gear and really ramp up the miles. I do promise to be more diligent about the postings in October, especially since the runs will get longer and there will be plenty to blog about.

Before signing off, we need to talk about "Funky Stomach." That would be our technical term for the bizarre feeling you get in your stomach region as a result of this running. If exercise is so good for you, then why the funky side effects? Everyone has said eventually you have some "digestive issues" which you can only truly begin to understand if you start running and training this hard. If you're interested in your own case of "Funky Stomach" then you'll just have to get off the couch and begin you're running regime.

Until this weekend...
Little B & Big B
